There's no way difficult to compaire the Alex from last summer and the Alex we have now. When diagnosed, Alex was a baby, unable to walk and without much energy to crawl. Now we have a little boy with a full head of strawberry blond hair (due for a cut) and enough energy to light-up a medium sized town.

Our littlest monster is still going for check-up's every month and irregular heart checks. The last check-up showed an elevated white blood cell count, which could have indicated a relapse and that the leukaemia was back. Fortunatley it was just a chest infection that the cells were fighting and that means he was relativley healthy. Since birth Alex has suffered glue ear , which is the root cause of the chest infection and the route cause of the regular colds he has. His appointment the the ear, nose and throat speciallist was brough forward. During the consulation, Alex was booked in for grommets to be fitted. Once fitted, the grommet should help relieve the glue ear and hopefully reduce the number of infections.

The last few heart tests (electro cardiograph and echo cardiogram?) have shown that there is a problem with Alex's heart. The consultant was hoping that the heart would have sorted itself out by the last scan but nope, so he's booked in for yet another.

Alex is still going through a lot but it could be worse. Almost every time I arrive home, the first thing I think of is that he nearly was not with us. Every smelly nappy, spilt drink, bite mark on my leg, muddy footprint - every smile is a bonus.
